You do not have to pay anything to create an account on Muso, it’s completely free! This includes your Muso profile, calendar and access to booking tools.
Muso charges a 15% commission ONLY for new gigs that are booked on Muso. We do not take commission if an artist has a pre-existing relationship with a venue that starts using Muso. So, if you’ve had the same gig at the same pub for years, we will not take commission, because Muso doesn’t have the right to.
It essentially changes nothing about the nature of the gig. We do not take commission on gigs that have a pre-existing relationship. We don’t have the right to. The only thing that changes is that your gig will now be managed through Muso, giving you access to automated invoicing, payment and booking tools.
Muso is built to make the admin side of Muso easy. All your gigs are organised in one place, all the detail you need about the gig is there, including equipment and contact details. The fee is agreed upfront and locked in and payment is automated and arrives as soon as the venue/client pays. No more raising and chasing invoices.
Payment on Muso is easy and secure. The payment amount is agreed on before the gig so there's no surprises on the night. Once the gig is played Muso does all the invoicing and, if necessary, all the chasing ensuring that the agreed amount gets to you every time without you having to lift a finger. Payment arrives as soon as the venue pays - typically the Friday following the gig.
Getting artists paid their agreed amount without any fuss is a core aspect of Muso's mission. We understand that gig work can be hard and it doesn't need to be made harder by payment uncertainty. We're hoping to bring a new standard to the live music industry where "surprises on the night" are a thing of the past rather than a cost of doing business.
The minimum hourly fee on Muso is $75 per hour. Hirers cannot put budgets in for under that rate. However, we find that the average is around $100 per hour per musician. The average gig fee is $300.00 on Muso, which is usually for a 3 hour solo gig.
Muso is a national platform. Our primary areas of operation are Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, however Muso is available for use in all states and territories of Australia.
Muso stores all of your payments on your profile. You can export your payment data in bulk during tax return season to keep an accurate track of your earnings for the year.
The gig feed is Muso’s premium gig hub. All venues on Muso list gigs, these gigs appear on the gig feed - think of it like a newsfeed for gigs. Gigs are limited so we do not grant gig feed permission to all Musicians.
The Muso team looks at every single profile created on Muso. The profiles that are full of content and up to standard are given access to the gig feed based on demand for their artist type. We also assess artists on stage readiness to ensure that artists who have access to the gig feed are able to play live comfortably.
Muso is so much more than an app, by joining Muso you join a large community of artists who are in the same stage of their career as you. Our community Facebook group (Side Stage) offers access to exclusive industry Q&A’s, panels and workshops.
We know that organising live music can be an operational nightmare. From finding the musician, negotiating fees, communicating and paying musicians, organising live music can be very complicated for someone who hasn’t done it before. On Muso we streamline everything from sourcing to paying the musician, to ensure that you find a high quality act as efficiently as possible.

Muso offers multiple payment options for hirers. Including credit card, direct debit and invoicing methods. Once you review the artist on Muso will automate payment. This means that we will not charge you for any gig that didn’t go ahead.
Muso handles all payments operations, including raising the invoice on behalf of the artist and raising a remittance on behalf of the hirer. We streamline the payment process and pay the artist on the hirers behalf.
Muso’s artist team goes through every single musician that signs up to Muso and selects musicians to have access to the gig feed (where your gigs are listed). We assess musicians on experience, stage presence and quality of content. Our artist scout team is also heavily connected to the music industry/community and scout new artists to join the platform every week to ensure you have the best of the best.
Every genre you can think of. From 12 piece Cuban bands to classical pianists to indie rock bands, we have a diversity of artists from all corners of the industry. If you can’t find a specific musician type reach out to our team, we will scout them or you. We recently scouted a few bouzouki players for a Greek venue - no joke.
We heavily disincentivise musicians when it comes to cancellations. So the chance of a cancellation is quite low. But we understand that uncontrollable things can happen. Hirers will get a full refund in the case of a cancellation by the artist.
Muso is a national platform and is available in every state and territory in Australia. However our strongest presence is in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
